SDeCUS 2016

International Conference on Safety Design and Construction of Underground Structures

11 - 13 April 2016

Czech Technical University in Prague, CZ                                           Conference programme

Safety in construction have the highest priority in the engineering of a underground structures and have to be fully integrated into the every stage of activities like design, construction and exploitation. This theme is of a great importance for researching a new more safety technology development.

Opening of the Conference

The Conference was opened by Dr. Alexander Kravcov, who expressed his gratitude to the authorities of the Czech Technical University for hosting the International Conference on Safety Design and Construction of Underground Structures. He also expressed his appreciation to Prof. Vladimir Křistek, for making time in his busy schedule to participate in the opening ceremony.

Dr. Kravcov mentioned that the SDeCUS programme is an important part of Willenberg Foundation objectives. The meetings bring together colleagues from different disciplines from various parts of the world, resulting in transfer of knowledge and setting up of many joint programmes. Alexander concluded by emphasising the commitment of SDeCUS 2016 to help bring together the international community.

Keynote Speakers

Each session has been opened by invited Keynote Speakers, leaders in their field, providing an overview of their topic of expertise as an introduction to the themes.

SDeCUS 2016 have the following confirmed Keynote Speakers:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ing. Jan Pruška, Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic

Professor Pruška holds the Research Position at the Department of Geotechnics of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Civil Engineering, since 1998. His research areas include the back analysis in numerical modelling of underground structure, constitutive modeling of soils and rock, Larin Hypercube Sampling and swelling of the soils and rock. He holds a Adjunct Professor in Geotechnical Engineering from the CTU in Prague for his „Influence of the rock bolts to the stress and deformation of the discontinuous rock mass“ in 2003. Prof. Pruška is a Fellow of Czech Tunnelling Association ITA-AITES, Czech Chamber for certified engineers and technicians active in construction and of the Czech Geotechnical Society ČSSI.

Conference Dinner

The programme gave the participants ample opportunities for holding discussions otside as well as in the conference rooms. The delegates met over coffee breaks and during lunches, as well as during the different social functions organised by the Willenberg Foundation. The Conference Dinner took place in the very pleasant setting of Hanavský pavilon in Letna outside the Prague Castle.  The place renowned for its cuisine and meat dishes, also offered a selection of excellent wines.  The quality of the food, convivial atmosphere and excellent service made this a unique occasion.
